Educational Background

Mr. Subashi received his Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude from the University of Delaware in 1977. At the University of Delaware, Mr. Subashi was elected to the honor societies of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. He was Chair of the Council on Student Judicial Affairs, the University's student judicial system, which consisted of students, faculty, and administration. At graduation, Mr. Subashi received the Robert Barrie Ulin Award as the University's outstanding graduate in Political Science.

Mr. Subashi graduated from the Dickinson School of Law in 1980 with a Juris Doctor degree. While studying there, Mr. Subashi served on the Appellate and Trial Moot Court Boards and was elected to the Corpus Juris Society. Also during law school, Mr. Subashi worked as a Research Analyst for the Republican Caucus of the Insurance Committee of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

Professional Experience

Since graduating from law school, Mr. Subashi has worked as a Deputy District Attorney in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and as a civil trial attorney in the state and federal courts of Pennsylvania and Ohio. In his civil career, Mr. Subashi has represented individuals, corporations small and large, police officers, school districts and their employees, other governmental entities, and insurance companies in both Pennsylvania and Ohio; he has tried over 200 jury trials. In addition, Mr. Subashi has argued cases in the Supreme Courts of Ohio and Pennsylvania, the United States District Courts, and the Sixth and Third Circuit Courts of Appeals. Mr. Subashi has also filed briefs in the representation of clients before the Supreme Court of the United States of America.

One of Mr. Subashi’s areas of concentration and expertise is school law. Mr. Subashi has represented over 50 different boards of education in southwestern Ohio.  In this capacity, he has handled cases touching on almost every facet of school law and is a well-known member of Ohio's "school law community.”  For some examples, Mr. Subashi has represented and advised school districts in cases involving employment matters, building and construction disputes, liability of school district employees and board members, funding issues, public records disputes, school violence issues, and student and teacher rights issues.

Mr. Subashi currently serves as General Counsel to the Beavercreek City School District Board of Education and the Mad River Local School Board of Education, and the firm regularly represents dozens of other school districts in Montgomery, Greene, Miami, Darke, Butler, Warren, Hamilton, and other counties.

Speaking and Publishing

Mr. Subashi routinely writes and lectures in the areas of school law, bad faith litigation, and trial advocacy. He has spoken to the faculty and staff of numerous school districts on different school law issues, such as sexual harassment and student rights. In this respect, Mr. Subashi is a frequent presenter to the Ohio School Boards Association, the Ohio Association of School Business Officials, and many individual boards of education.

Mr. Subashi has also spoken at the semi-annual meetings of the Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys (OACTA) on the topics of bad faith, trial advocacy, and tort reform, and he has published articles in the OACTA Quarterly. Additionally, Mr. Subashi has testified before the Ohio General Assembly on issues related to Tort Reform and Insurance Coverage. Mr. Subashi chaired a panel discussion titled "Trying the Scott-Pontzer Case: Practical Tips and Suggestions" that was presented at the April 2003 Insurance Coverage Symposium, which OACTA held in Columbus, Ohio. At that Symposium, Mr. Subashi also gave a presentation regarding "Insurance Coverage Issues Pertaining to Political Subdivisions."

Professional Recognition

In the 2006 and forthcoming 2008 edition of America’s Best Lawyers, Mr. Subashi has been named by his peers as one of the nation’s finest lawyers in the field of Education Law. He has also been recognized as one of Ohio’s Super Lawyers by Law & Politics magazine for the past 3 years and as one of the Best of the Bar by the Dayton Business Journal in its annual survey of Dayton attorneys. In 2002, the Defense Research Institute awarded Mr. Subashi its Exceptional Performance Citation, and in 1995, he received the Frank S. Hurd Member of the Year Award from OACTA.

In 2002, Mr. Subashi was certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy as a Certified Civil Trial Advocate, and he was recently recertified as such.  He is the only lawyer in Ohio who has been recognized as one of America’s Best Lawyers in Education Law and who is also a board-certified Civil Trial Advocate.

Mr. Subashi has received the highest rating (av) from the national attorney rating system, Martindale-Hubbell.

Professional and Community Involvement

Mr. Subashi is very active in professional organizations. Mr. Subashi is a member of the Dayton, Ohio, and American Bar Associations, a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and a Fellow of the Ohio State Bar Foundation. Mr. Subashi currently serves as a member of the Executive Committee Member for OCSBA, the Ohio Council of School Board Attorneys. Mr. Subashi served as President of OACTA from 2001-02 and was on the Executive Committee following his presidency. Mr. Subashi is a member of the Defense Research Institute and the Council of School Attorneys of the Ohio and National School Boards Associations. Mr. Subashi is a Master in the Carl D. Kessler Inn of Court and an associate member of the Dayton Claim Adjusters Association. Mr. Subashi is also a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel.

With respect to community involvement, Mr. Subashi is a former member of the Vestry of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, during which time he chaired the Outreach Commission. Mr. Subashi is a past president of the Board of Trustees of The Miami Valley School, Dayton's only pre-K through 12 independent school. Mr. Subashi is also a former member of the Board of Governors of the Five Seasons Sports Country Club. Mr. Subashi and his wife, Debbe, have two children, Juliana and Alexander.
